DUI chase left a trail of damage

Clyde Allen Canup, 39, was arrested after he nearly drove into a police car. The incident started when an officer saw a pick up truck driving towards him, the officer had to run off the road to avoid being hit.

As the pick up truck passed the officer the officer noticed that Clyde Canup appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel.

Once Canup noticed what happened, he sped up through a residential area. Apparently the pursuit was ended by officers when they felt it was too unsafe to proceed with the pursuit. A BOLO was issued.

Canup attempt to escape came to an end when he crashed into a tree.

According to reports it should have been easy to track Canup

He ran over a stop sign, drove into a yard and took out a basket ball hoop, he hit a parked car and the carport it was parked in and then ran over the mailbox as he backed out of the yard. Canup drove around with the basketball hoop stuck to his car.

Canup was taken to the hospital for several injuries. He was treated and released and now residing at Pinellas County Jail.
