Father supports son, Thomas Ramirez, 17

The father of a teenager accused of plotting to kill a classmate said his son was in love and made a mistake, KPRC Local 2 reported Friday.

According to Pasadena police, Thomas Ramirez, 17, was behind a murder-for-hire plot that involved a 15-year-old girl at his school.

Prosecutors said the Sam Rayburn High School student made the arrangements because the girl was his former girlfriend's best friend and did not approve of their relationship.

"He's young in the mind and young at heart. He doesn't even know how to make a collect call," said Cesar amirez, the suspect's father.

Cesar Ramirez came to court Friday morning for his son's scheduled appearance, which was delayed.

"I love my son and all, but I don't know what made him do this. Besides a broken heart, you know? I think we've all been there at one time or another. He's a good kid and I support him all the way. Hopefully this passes over and we take it one day at a time. Not much we can do right now," he said.

Ramirez was charged with solicitation of capital murder. A conviction could result in five years to life in prison, plus a $10,000 fine.

Thomas Ramirez remained jailed in lieu of a $100,000 bond.
