Another inmate put it death in Texas… Ricardo Ortiz died at 618pm.

Ricardo Ortiz, 46, was put to death in Texas on Thursday January 29th.

Ortiz a violent man with an extensive criminal background was put to death in Texas. Ortiz was the 2nd inmate in a week’s time to die in a Texas execution chamber. He was the 5th inmate put to death in Texas this year.

Ortiz was a high ranking member of the Texas Syndicate prison gang and even though he had a pretty violent history he tried one last time to ask for clemency.

Ortiz thought he should be entitled to federal money to pay for legal representation to file a state clemency request.

However, the courts denied that appeal and Texas proceeded with the execution.

Ortiz was convicted of murdering Gerardo Garcia in 1997. Garcia was a fellow inmate and was found dead in 1997 with more than 3 times the fatal amount of heroin in his system.

During that trial other inmates testified against Ortiz and said he had obtained that large amount of heroin the day prior to Garcia’s death and in fact Ortiz was the murderer and had injected the entire amount heroin into Garcia.

Now the defense was hard at work on this case, but once again the feeble argument they presented to the jury was Garcia had a death wish and was considering suicide. Apparently that defense failed thanks to the other inmates’ testimony.

This wasn’t the first murder for Ortiz. In 1990, even though he never stood trial for this crime, he was arrested for 2 execution style murders. Anthony Rosalio, 42 and Jimmy Lopez, 29 were found dead in a desert southeast of El Paso. According to the media, the evidence showed Ortiz was responsible for those deaths.

That’s odd; I wonder why he never stood trial for those murders?

Ortiz criminal history revealed a background of arrest for robbery, aggravated robbery, and burglary, possession of a deadly weapon in prison (which was a homemade shank and used to stab a fellow inmate)

During his last statements Ortiz said he wanted to thank his family for their support even though there were no personal witnesses present in the death chamber.
