Human Trafficking in Pinellas County…. 3 Suspects arrested…

This is the Bay area’s first case of human trafficking. Right now they have 3 people is custody and still looking for more.

This will be an interesting case to following and when I first heard of this case of course it reminded me of Jessica Foster from Canada.

According to the sheriff’s site, the following have been arrested

Kenyatta Cornelous, 38

Edward Jones, 47

Corinna Shaffer, 24

These 3 were arrested throughout Pinellas County on Saturday. Police are still looking for
Colin Dyer for his involvement in this case.

The investigation started back in March after the police received a tip.

During the course of the investigation the police soon discovered that the suspects were able to physically and mentally abuse the victims. The suspects are now accused of taking the victims identity, money and general freedom.

General freedom, which is something I cannot get over. I know this happens, but I just cannot understand how a person can allow another human to take their freedom?

I have come to realize what a problem this is all over the world after I posted about Jessica Foster and all the communications I have had with her mother. We email each other from time to time and I get all of her emails she sends out on a regular basis.

During the investigation the police learned that the victims had been stripped from everything including clothing, credit cards, cell phones and personal identity. The sheriff’s spokesperson also said the victims lived in a very strict imprisoned type of environment.

Now if loosing their personal general freedom wasn’t bad enough, the victims were also forced to work in strip clubs and forced into prostitution.

** On a side note, I just watched on TV where some prostitutes were on TV claiming they where high end prostitutes and claiming the prostitution laws should be changed to make their choice of employment legal. How sad… Maybe the hookers should reconsider and find a legal job instead of going on TV and claiming there is nothing wrong with this career.

Authorities are still looking for suspect Colin Dyer.

Police feel that there are multiple victims and believe there are more victims out there.

Cornelous is charged with sexual battery, human trafficking and deriving proceeds from prostitution.

Jones is charged with human trafficking

Shaffer is charged with human trafficking and deriving proceeds from prostitution.

More charges and arrest are possible.

The Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Investigative Operations Bureau, the Clearwater Area Human Trafficking Task Force, the Clearwater Police Department and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement conducted the investigation.
