Attempted robbery, suspect shots himself and dies.

According to reports Cameron Sands, 19, accidentally shot and killed himself Tuesday morning while he was attempting to rob a home.

Sands apparently kicked in the door of the house and then shot himself in the stomach as he pulled his gun out of his pants to shoot the homeowner. The homeowner was not injured in the incident.

After he shot himself, he dropped the gun and ran out of the home. Police were notified. He was found at 0530 hrs in a driveway in the neighborhood.

Police report that this is the first they have heard of a robbery suspect killing himself while trying to draw his weapon from his waistband. Grand Prairie Police reports the criminal evidence point to him shooting himself. It certainly isn’t common police said.

The death has been ruled an accident according to the County Medical Examiner.
