Now that the multi-state manhunt is over the courts have already had Sheley there for a brief hearing.
Sheley was in jail and had a brief court hearing by a video feed. The jail is not too far from the bar he was arrested at.
The Judge read the charges which included; first degree murder, aggravated battery and vehicular hijacking for the death of Ronald Randall, 65.
Sheley said he understood the charges and could not afford the $100,000 necessary to post his $1 million dollar bond.
The Judge ordered Sheley to be held until Knox County authorities could pick him up.
Authorities believe Sheley, 28, killed seven other people in the past week, including a 93-year-old man and a 2-year-old child. He is charged in only two of the eight deaths, but authorities say evidence links him to each crime scene.
My question is: Why does he even have a bond? What are they going to do if someone elects to post bond for him?
Authorities cannot figure out why Sheley brutality killed his victims with blunt objects. This type of violence has not been his MO in the past and now authorities are puzzled.
According to reports Sheley has struggled with drugs in the past. Police said he was in Chicago to buy drugs and family members said he has been involved with crack cocaine. Family also said he has been in trouble many times over the years but something like this was out of character for him.
Police don’t know if he was high at the time of the crimes.
His wife, Holly, said her husband was a good man when he was clean and sober. This is not Nick. His wife went on to say without drugs and alcohol he was a kindhearted man, he’s caring and he has respect for people.
As his wife was telling the papers about her husband authorities in western Illinois issued a warrant for Sheley's arrest for the murder of 93-year-old Russell Reed. The body of Reed, the first of the eight killed, was found one week ago in the trunk of a car, police say.
Investigators say Sheley is a suspect in the slayings of six others: two men, a woman and 2-year-old child, whose remains were discovered Monday in an apartment in Rock Falls; and a couple whose bodies were found Monday behind a gas station in a Missouri suburb of St. Louis.
Sheley was acquainted with the male victims from Rock Falls, which is just across the Rock River from his hometown.
