Timothy Jones, left, and Darryl Moody
01/23/2009
Timothy Jones, 36, teamed up with X-death row inmate to rob an IHOP restaurant. I guess the ol’ saying is true; birds of a feather flock together. Or if you lie with the dogs you’re going to get fleas. I guess any of them would work; stupid criminal teaming up with stupid criminal surely leads to some quick arrest and gets Moody back home in the Florida prison system.
Jones actually used a silver handgun to force the manager to give him about $780 bucks out of the safe… Wonder if $780 bucks would be worth going to prison for? I’m thinking no but of course that’s just my opinion.
Darryl Moody, 47, was the get-a-away car driver. He said he waited in the car while Jones completed the robbery. I guess being in the “big house” once wasn’t enough for Moody. So he tried to live out every criminals dream, commit armed robbery, steal a lot of cash and get away and live happily ever after.
But as soon as Jones had the loot, they took off, leading police on a chase along county roads and through a downtown area. I guess they got tired of driving and thought they could out run the police on foot so as any other smart criminal, they stopped with the police right behind them (one would think a stupid criminal would be smart enough to at least loose the police before trying to outrun them on foot, but hey again that just my opinion)
So as they stopped and jumped out they were both shot with a stun gun and that ended escape attempt.
Moody was charged with
Robbery with a firearm
Felony fleeing
False imprisonment
Resisting an officer without violence
And Jones was charged with
Armed Robbery
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Openly carry a firearm
False imprisonment
Resisting an officer without violence
Both Moody and Jones are being held in the Polk County Jail without bond.
Moody escaped the death penalty in 1988 when the Florida Supreme Court overturned his murder conviction. The Supreme Court ruled a search of his car was illegal and that set him free.
Then in a second trial in 2004, Moody was convicted once again but in that case there were allegations of juror misconduct and once again Moody was set free.
I personally think that if I were ever to go to prison once would be enough. There is nothing I can think of in the world that would be worth my freedom.
I guess some people just don’t care if they are free or not after all some people have it better off in prison than they ever would out in the real world living on their own.
Wonder if the prison will have a Welcome Home celebration for Moody?
