Jordan Valdez has been given probation as a juvenile.

Sadly the system failed in this case.









Jordan Valdez was charged as an adult for the hit and run that took the life of Melissa Sjostrom.

The teenager was 16 at the time of the crash and as we all know she left the scene and left Melissa Sjostrom for dead.

Her day in court proved to be a waste of time as she was sentenced to 15 months of probation as a juvenile.

Her parents said the conviction as an adult would have jeopardized their daughters’ academic future.

What about the future of the person she killed?

Sadly Valdez will be a murderer for the rest of her life and the fact she got probation will be nothing compared to having to live with the fact she took someone’s life at such a young age.

I cannot fault the parents for wanting the best for their daughter

,
but I can find fault in the system for allowing the charges to be reverted back to a juvenile charge, she committed an adult crime and should have had to do the time.

But I guess in Tampa if you are a teenager you can run over anyone you want and leave them for dead.

Cases like this is a prime example of where our system fails.

This time the parents of the teenager are trying to rally up support for their daughter.

They are trying to convince a judge that the teen needs to be tried as a juvenile and not an adult.

There argument: Jordan will loose her scholarship.

Nothing about a lesson learned, nothing about how much pain and sorrow she caused nothing to apologize for what happened, nothing at all except my daughter is going to miss out on her education.

Maybe the daughter should have though about that before running over someone and deciding to drive away.

Oh yeah that’s right, maybe she needs those funds for school since her attorney was in the paper talking about the lack of worldly skills the girls has. Does anyone think that college would help her mature and gain the worldly skills she needs?

Education never hurts, but I personally think she needs to pay the price for taking another human life.

Granted accidents happen and hence the name accidents, but the breaking point in this case is the face she made a conscious choice to drive away and not even try to summons help for the dying lady.

Anyone that is that incapable of caring for another human being doesn’t deserve to go to school for free. Let the parents, who obliviously failed to teach the girl right from wrong, pay for her school.

Oh wait, I forgot, she does care now. When she was trying to hide from what happened we heard nothing and AFTER SHE GOT CAUGHT she became emotional.

Sure she was probably upset, who wouldn’t be? Right. I mean after all she was the cause of a death but why hide and make the police find you through the investigation.

The sentencing decision will be left up to Hillsborough Circuit Judge Chet Tharpe.

Maybe I should start a letter to support her being tried as an adult and send the results of the poll to the judge to review as well…

What are your thoughts on the Jordan Valdez case?

Once again the people have spoken.. On this poll there was a total of 80% of the bloggers that think that Jordan Valdez should stand trial in this case since someone died as a result of her actions.

I have not seen anything else published about this case as of the time of writing this. I will try to take a look and see if I can find anything about the outcome of this case.

I wish her attorney could see the 80% of the people responding to the poll wants her tired in a court of law.

I think it’s awesome to know many share the same opinion that I have in this case. I love when kids claim they are responsible enough to be out driving alone and then as soon as something happens their attorney is in the papers saying they are not mature enough.

Of course we cannot solely blame the attorneys in this case (well we can, but….)
If this teen was truly that immature, why would the parents let her out behind the wheel?

Anyway, it’s just sad that someone lost their life over a kid leaving the scene after killing someone with the vehicle they were driving.

Now also I know I have seemed a little one sided on this topic, but I also feel bad for the teenager. She has to live knowing that she took a life. I could not imagine the horror she has encountered over this incident.

The reason I have been 1 sided on this topic of course has been the attorney in the paper talking about how a teenager does not have the maturity level and lack of worldly sense.
