Mother and Son arrested in Clearwater, FL
The Clearwater Police responded to a call for shots fired in the neighborhood when they found a house at 1117 Woodside Ave with several small explosive devices outside of the home and some suspicious chemicals.
Police said the explosive devices found outside around the home where of no danger to any of the surrounding homes. Since some of the devices had been detonated in the yard. Yet while the house was searched with a robot to determine if any explosive devices were active inside the home, the neighbors were evacuated.
When the police arrived, they did find Andrew A. Mason 18, at home. Andrew was arrested in charges of drug possession and bomb making charges. He is expected to make his first appearance in court on Sunday Morning.
Police did notify the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security as part of standard procedure for possible bomb making investigations.
Investigators did say it appeared that Mason was experimenting with building and detonating bombs.
Laura Mason was arrested on charges of child abuse.
The suspect's mother, 48-year-old Laura Mason, was also arrested on charges of child abuse. An unnamed child in the home was taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families after officers found animal feces and urine throughout the home, which officials called "unsafe and deplorable."
Animal Control was also called to remove six dogs, a cat and a bird from the home.
A Clearwater police officer who was taken to Morton Plant Hospital after he complained of dizziness was released Saturday. Officials said he is doing fine.

Oddly, it was reported by the local media to the public that Laura Mason was arrested for child abuse/neglect.
The jail and court arrest records only show arrest in 2006 for bad checks.
There is nothing listed for the current case.

Well there does not seem to be a lot happening with this case at the moment.
The Sheriffs web site does show that Andrew Mason was released from jail
On 6/13/08 at 1740 hrs.
Interesting enough there are still no charges listed for his mother, Laura Mason.
Her only arrest was in 2006 on a bad check charge.

Yeah, guessed right. Me. I was there, I know what happened. And this is a load of shit, that house was about as filthy as the White House. Which isn't filthy at all! And the cops didn't file arrests against my mom because she didn't do anything - nothing, at all. So I would suggest anyone reading this better shut their fucking mouth. What you read is not true. I live in hell now, okay. And all because some stupid ass fucking cops decided to make some big deal out of nothing. Absolutely nothing. I didn't know they charged "making bombs" if you put baking soda in a soda bottle! Idiots...

First let me say, sorry to hear that you are “living in hell” now.
Not sure exactly what you mean by that, but would like to find out.
One thing I don’t like about blogging is I never have the opportunity to interview anyone involved in the case. I usually hear the media side of it and that’s it.
However, since you did respond to my post, I’m more than willing to talk to you to get more information from you so I can do a follow up post with your side of the story.
I have always believed there are 2 sides to every story and would like to hear your side of this one.
I did find a few things odd about this case especially with the media reporting your mom was arrested for child neglect and yet nothing was reported in her arrest record or at the court house.
Another was the fact they claimed they found bombs in the yard and in the same sentence said the community was safe. How could the community be safe if there was a bomb?
Anyway, if you would like to talk, let me know, I would like to get your side and post it here.
As you can read I have been doing some post on the Power of the Press and the influence it has on people and sounds like this could be another interesting case to follow up on.
