Firefighter Jeffrey A. Morgan – to the rescue, ooppss I mean to the jail
Jeffrey A. Morgan, 33, a firefighter for Polk County was arrested for firing his 9mm weapon from his vehicle as he driving near Dade City.
It seems he had nothing specific in his sites he was shooting at; the media reported he was shooting at various objects.
Now I’m from a small rural area and we had a lot of mountains around and it was nothing for us to be driving through the mountains and find a safe place (usually at a friend’s farm) and get some target practice in. We would shoot 1000’s of rounds in a day time. Of course we used re-loaded ammo that we reloaded ourselves. But we had a great time and became pretty proficient with the many hand guns we would shoot on a regular basis. We all owned several weapons and we would trade and shoot different weapons each time we got together. So we had fun and practiced in a safe manor.
One has to wonder what Jeffrey A. Morgan was thinking as he was driving down the road shooting away. Was it a form of target practice? If so maybe someone should suggest him going to a firing range with moving targets to get the moving target practice in.
When we would target practice we would be miles away from anything. Unlike Morgan, he was driving near Dade City shooting away.
Even though Morgan reported he would stop shooting when a vehicle was behind him, it was reported that the person driving behind him was the one that called the police to report him for shooting as he was driving down the road.
The Pasco County Sheriffs Office reported they pulled Morgan over and during the investigation, Morgan admitted to firing the gun out the window of his truck.
Morgan was charged with discharging a firearm from a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person. He was released later that day on $10,000 bail.
Polk County Fire Rescue Chief David Cash says the agency is waiting for more information before determining any possible disciplinary action.

Having many friends in the Fire Service, I wonder if Morgan threw the get out of jail free card as so many of them have claimed they have done. They get pulled over and show their firefighter ID and get to leave without charges.
Personally I find that practice unfair to people. If it was a traffic violation, maybe, I gave many people a break for traffic offenses every single day and it made no difference where the person worked for me to give them a break. But at the same time I was pretty by the book and some days go to work with the attitude if you made my feet hit the ground, you would get a ticket or arrested and that also applied to firefighters and Paramedics.
Obviously that did not apply in this case, but one has to wonder if he tried the get out of jail free card with his Firefighter ID. Oh well, I guess we will never know the answer to that
