How to discipline your child, at least in Oregon….

Well you may not want to follow in Todd Marcum’s footsteps and discipline your child in the same manor he disciplined his children.

Todd Marcum,41, was convicted in court and sentenced to 3 years of supervised probation.

Of course I find that sentence to be lacking but at least he was convicted of something.

Anyway, how did Todd Marcum decide to punish his children?

Well he decided to try something a little different than most parents.

He elected to use a shock collar for dogs.

His children ranged from 3 years old to 9 years old.

Now the sad part of the sentence is the fact that Todd Marcum thought this would be funny. With an attitude towards child abuse like that, I cannot see a judge giving him supervised probation.

Maybe it was a plea deal since he did plea guilty to 4 counts of criminal mistreatment.

The judge did order that he is barred from using corporal punishment and barred from physical play with children.

It has been reported in the media that Marcum has started counseling and Mr. Marcum himself said nothing like this will ever happen again.

I hope for Mr. Marcum nothing like this does happen again.

I cannot get over the fact that he thought this was funny. I guess we should be happy that the children are with there mother and didn’t suffer any physical injuries. I could only imagine the mental damage that was caused by Mr. Marcum’s actions.

Hopefully the Department of Human Services and his parole officer can keep some tight tabs on Todd Marcum to ensure this will not happen again.

Cases like this make me think more and more people need to get a license to have children. People need to pass a psychological exam and be taught the basics of having children. Its sad working in the line of work I work in and dealing with children and the parents don’t have the first clue of anything regarding their own child.

We have to have a license to drive a car, to go fishing or hunting. We have to have permits to even build anything on our own property yet anyone can have all the children they want with no education requirement before giving birth to a child.

I got to tell you, its scary working in the medical field dealing with these people, I feel bad for the children. They are the ones suffering. What I find even more disgusting is the fact that some parents want more children for more welfare money. More kids = More Money. (That we the working taxpayers get to give them.)

Granted I know all the license fees are all about making money for nothing. I mean really, what does it cost the state to let you go fishing for the day, nothing… Yet they want to charge you to do that. Then if you get caught without that license it will cost you a lot more in the long run. So to me it’s like a legal scam the states run to make money for nothing. But back to the child permit…..

People claim they don’t have money for education before having a child and they don’t want to pay to have a child. If they have no money for a class on how to raise a child how do they expect to raise a child with no money? Why would they even consider having a child?

I know a lot of places offer free classes and education for the child baring females but at some point I think it must become a mandatory requirement to have a child. In this class people can be taught that a shock collar would never be an appropriate joke to play on a child. Bringing harm to a child should never be a joke.

I hope that Mr. Marcum can stand true to his word and this will never happen again but if he should have some relapse and abuse another child I can only hope the courts will show no mercy for him the 2nd time around. Because honestly if had been up to me, he would not been shown any mercy in this conviction.
