When will the police learn to not drink and drive???

Good question, maybe we should ask the off duty deputy that was recently arrested for DUI and refusing a breath test.

That’s right off duty deputy Joshua Scott Harrington, 26, was arrested after the police witnessed him driving in an erratic manor.

The on duty police reported that Harrington almost struck the center medial several times.

I can hear his defense now and since they have no breath test that they cannot prove he was under the influence.

But I wonder what he plans on doing for a license since refusal invokes an immediate suspension.

There was no information released about if he is on leave with or without pay. But with the history I’m sure they are paying him to drink and drive. But I guess we will find out more as the case progresses through the courts.

Anyway it’s just a shame the police cannot follow their own advice...

Don’t Drink and Drive…

At least he was able to bond out of jail on a 500 bond.

Lieutenant with Santa Rose County now in an inmate. Talk about a change of uniforms....

X-Lt. John Tomlinson, 46, has found himself on the wrong side of the bars.

Tomlinson at some point in his law enforcement career took a wrong turn somewhere and now rest in jail accused of a heinous crime.

The X-cop has been charged with 120 counts, yes 120 counts of sexually battery on a child between 12 and 18 years old.

120 counts, how long has this man being abusing children?

Now if 120 counts wasn’t enough it was also posted that since some evidence has come up he will also face 5 additional charges involving capital sexual battery.

I wonder if they are going to work out a plea deal for this guy, because right now he went from a high ranking sheriff’s office official to facing life in prison.

It has also been reported that the States Attorney’s Office could seek the death penalty in this case as well.

Tomlinson first court appearance was March 12 and he should have been arraigned on all charges on March 16.

Apparently the Sheriff’s Office had called in the FDLE to investigate allegations that Tomlinson was having sexual relations with a minor.

There was nothing reported as to who actually reported the sexual relations to the Sheriff’s Office.

Tomlinson was placed on immediate paid leave.

Please Note -- Paid leave, so we are paying a deputy sheriff to sit in jail on paid leave. What a shame.

Granted he has not been convicted yet so he is presumed innocent until proven guilty but here is another prime example of the residents of Florida paying a public safety official because he is accused of committing (a lot of) crimes.

Not just a few charges, but 125 charges.

Obviously this criminal action has been taking place for a long long time.

I just don’t understand. But hey that’s just me. I still think that any public safety official arrested should be placed on un-paid leave the minute the handcuffs are slapped on. (If they even handcuffed him when he was arrested.)

Ha, I wonder if he got arrested while on duty. Wouldn’t that be a smack in the face?

I will never understand why we tolerate paying people to commit crimes.

Anyway, the judge set a rather hefty bond. The bond was set at 845,000.

The Sheriff and other officials spoke highly of the X-Lt. Tomlinson and said they would be very disappointed if he was found guilty of these crimes.

I have not read or heard any information on the victim or victims.

I’m sure we will learn more as this case progress through the courts.

Don’t Drink and Drive, if only the police listened to the same advice…

Pinellas County Deputy Wade Nordby, 41, has been arrested for DUI.

The Dunedin Fire Department and Pinellas County Sheriffs Office responded to a single vehicle accident on Alt. US 19.

The accident took place in a construction area. As part of the road work, the construction crews had placed the concrete barriers along the road.

I know those barriers are in place for the safety of the highway workers and they need protection, but I have always wondered how much more damage they cause to the vehicles involved in the accident, with the angles of the barriers, one would think they would flip a car right over.

Well this deputy got to experience this first hand. Nordby hit the barrier and flipped right over.

Nordby was lucky and was able to escape that accident without serious injury.

But his luck wasn’t long lived so to speak, one of his fellow deputies had to arrest him for driving under the influence.

Now one has to wonder if they are going to place him on administrative leave with pay.
I hope they don’t pay him for drinking and driving.

I don’t know what would be worse, to be a police officer and get arrested for something so stupid or being a co-worker and having to arrest one of my own for something so stupid.
As we all know though, stupid equals a quick arrest.

Sadly this deputy may have lost everything (career, way of life, etc.) for a fun filled night of drinking and driving.

Sadly this deputy could not live by the simple motto of Don’t Drink and Drive.

Polk County Deputy Arrested.

James Pruitt, 37, a Deputy Sheriff at Polk County Sheriff’s Department has been arrested for DUI.

Pruitt was arrested when he was found passed out behind the wheel of his car. The motor was still running.

Other Deputies had to perform field sobriety test on one of their own and it was reported that Pruitt failed those field sobriety test and was taken to the Polk County Jail.

Leave it to the Polk County Sheriff, strict enforcement even for a deputy. Pruitt was suspended without pay until the investigation is complete.

I would think the investigation is complete since he was arrested and taken to jail, maybe they should have posted he has been suspended pending the outcome of his trial.

For once you don’t see a public safety official being suspended with pay until the outcome, paying someone for violating the law drives me crazy and I think it should never happen.

But that’s just my thoughts… Doesn't mean you have to agree with me, but after all this is my blog and place for me to post my thoughts....

Deputy Police Chief now a convicted felon for having sex with a 16 year old.

Over in Mulberry, FL the 40 year old Deputy Police Chief, Jody Beaudry, pleaded guilty to having sex with a 16 year old girl.

Beaudry was on duty while he committed the crimes in 2004 and he was serving as the City of Mulberry’s Deputy Police Chief at the time he was charged in 2008.

There wasn’t a lot of information released and will never be since there was a plea deal in the case so we will never know all of the details of the case.

The 16 year old was on probation and the Deputy Chief threatened to have her probation revoked if she did not have sex with him. So of course she agreed to have sex.

Now what’s more sickening than this case if the fact they allowed Beaudry to plea in this case.

As part of his plea he could receive up to 7 years in prison but we have to wait and find out on Sept 25 when he is scheduled for sentencing.

Why do the courts allow sex offenders to work out a plea deal? Was it because he was a bad cop? Yet the average male gets sent straight to prison in some cases for the rest of his life yet the courts let this guy plea for maybe up to 7 years in prison.

It would be interesting to know more about this case as well. Now I have posted before that I would never agree with sex of someone underage, but at the same time we have to question if this is something the 16 year old wanted. All she had to do is say no.

Where were the girls parents? How did she end up alone with a 40 year old police officer and get put in a position of have sex or have your probation revoked?

Which makes no sense, the police can report to probation officers but the final call would come from the probation officer. What would the officer tell the PO? She refused to have sex with me…

Anyway, this cop will hopefully get every second of time in his 7 year plea deal… What a disgrace to the uniform.

Remember this post? Bar Fight, Patron Arrested, May Cost Sean Letona his Law Enforcement career.

The first post is here

I was following up on this case since there has not been a lot of information released since the night of Sean Letona’s arrest.
Now we have an interesting twist in the case.

Sean Letona has resigned.

Even though a lot of people were posting to different blogs stating people should not judge Sean Letona until they knew all of the facts of the case, Sean has left the building.

According to media reports on this case Letona was going to be fired for conduct unbecoming and for being armed while off duty.

Remember the recliners in the Texas jail? 17 charged so far in drug and sex crimes.

Saturday, February 28, 2009

The Texas jail that was closed because of the relaxed security now has a total of 17 people charged in different drug and sex crimes that was taking place at that jail.

Now with those 17 people they managed to rack up a 106 count indictment.

The first post I wrote on the jail closing is here….

But for a quick recap---

Montague County Jail was closed when the new Sheriff Paul Cunningham took over on January 1, 2009.

The jails surveillance camera’s had been unplugged (unknown if by jail staff or inmates)
Some cells had paper/towels blocking the view so jailers could not see in the cells
Some cells were locking from the inside
Recliners were found in some cells
Pills found scattered all around the floors of the jail

That’s just to name a few right off the top of my head that I remember from the first post.

Now no one is release why this jail was under investigation in the first place, but with what was happening there it’s no wonder the investigation started.

The arrest started at the top and worked there way down

The X-Sheriff was the first. X-Sheriff Bill Keating was charged with official oppression and having sex with inmates.

Several X-jailers were also charged with charges that range from sex with inmates to bringing drugs in the jail for the inmates.

The male X-jailers were charged with drug possession and bringing inmates banned items.

The female X-jailers were charged with having sex with inmates, bringing drugs into the jail for the inmates, providing the inmates with cell phones and cigarettes.

Anyway, this story takes yet another twist…

The State District Judge sealed the names in the indictments until all of the suspects are arrested, but their job and charges were made public.

Several inmates also were charged with drug possession, according to the indictment.
Now once again you have to love defense attorneys. The defense attorney said the charges against the X-Sheriff were kind of silly in the face of the federal investigation.

Now even more odd, it has been reported that the X-Sheriff was surrender “in due time”

What the crap is that? Surrender in due time? If that was anyone else, would they have the option to surrender in due time or would the police track them down and arrest them on the spot?

I would like to tell the defense that what is silly in this case is that a person with the power as sheriff showed such disrespect for his position it has lead to his indictment.
I have no sympathies for the X-Sheriff or any of the others that are now facing time behind bars.

Now this also brings up another matter, how hard up were the females jailers to have to result to having sex with inmates?

Surely they could have found someone with a little higher standard on the “outside” and someone they knew a little something about v/s risking their career for a few minutes of sex with an inmate.

Not to mention the spread of diseases among inmates like hepatitis and HIV to name a couple.

Of course we have to mention the violation of the oath of office they took and swore to uphold.

These people deserve anything and everything the courts can possibly convict them on and to give the high X-Sheriff the option to surrender in due time, what a joke.

The X-Sheriff Keating who is 62, has already pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights violation in a case (that was not related to this case) involving the sexual assault of a woman. The high (X) sheriff is already facing up to 10 years in federal prison.

The federal civil rights violation case was involving a woman that Keating told would be jailed on drug charges unless she had sex with him.

I would like to ask the X sheriff if that was really worth 10 years in prison…

.

The X-Sheriff Keating

Keating, 62, has pleaded guilty to a federal civil rights violation in an unrelated case involving the sexual assault of a woman. He is to be sentenced to up to 10 years in federal prison in May. Keating told a woman she would be jailed on drug charges unless she had sex with him.

Now just so you know the others that have been charged with providing drugs to inmates or other prohibited substances to inmates carry a maximum punishment of 10 years in prison.

Hopefully they get every second of time allowed by law for being such stupid criminals while in uniform and in the daily performance of their duties.

Detention Deputy Arrested again, still suspended with pay

Aaron Simpson, 28 has been placed on administrative leave with pay I might add for yet another DUI charge.

Simpson is a Detention Deputy at the Pinellas County jail and once again they process one of their own.

Now the awesome part of this arrest is one of the off duty detectives of the same department called in on Simpson to report his vehicle was being driven erratically.

Simpson was stopped in the area of Belcher Road and Bryan Dairy Road in Pinellas Park.

Simpson was off duty and in his private vehicle at the time of the arrest. (At least he wasn't drunk at work)

Simpson has been with the Sheriff’s Office over 6 years and it appears working with the inmates there he still has not learned “Don’t Drink and Drive.”

I think that is the TV advertisement we see daily on TV in Florida, they are stepping up DUI enforcement and if you drink and drive they will arrest you.

His disregard for the DUI law is apparent from his arrest record at the jail.

02/22/2008 Arrested for DUI
And if that wasn’t bad enough
11/04/2008 Arrested for DUI

After working the street as a cop, I can see making a mistake once and getting caught. Not that I agree with drinking and driving and never will, but I can see how it happens to some people.

But you would think a person in Simpson’s position would have been smart enough not to do the same thing again, especially while still out on a pretrial release for his first offense.

Personally, if I were in Simpson’s shoes, I would have done everything in my power to assure I would not be arrested again. I would have entered into an alcohol abuse program and then begged the Sheriff not to fire me for the first arrest. (If he even wants to keep his job)
But not Simpson.

Granted a DUI arrest is not the worst thing in the world, but it goes back to why I post so much about Police being arrested. This man took an Oath of Office to uphold and to maintain high moral standards in the community and yet he has been arrested twice. Sickening that a man could have that much disregard for his position and still maintain employment.

But hey why not, commit a crime and get paid leave until the matters are resolved in court. Its already been 9 months since his first arrest, so I wonder if the Sheriff will continue to pay him for 9 more months (or longer) until this matter is resolved.

Nice to know that instead of replacing him, we are leaving an opening at the jail to leave his co-workers even more short handed. What a system we have. Gotta love it, especially if you commit a crime and continue to get paid for doing absolutely nothing.

X Police Officer Jorge Arbaje-Diaz Arrested.

X Police Officer Jorge Arbaje-Diaz Arrested.

A NYPD officer betrayed his badge by working for a gang that stole $20 million in cocaine from drug dealers and then resold it on the streets.

This piece of trash was even on duty and in full uniform with gun, badge and handcuff when some of the illegal activity took place.

Arbaje-Diaz is 30 years old and he was charged in Federal Court for his role in at least 100 robberies along the east coast.

He now faces life in prison; sadly the courts cannot put him to death for his crimes. 100 robberies and some while in uniform.

A Drug Enforcement Administration Special Agent said the crimes… are a slap in the face to the vast majority of law enforcement officers who are dedicated to upholding the law.

Now NYPD is back pedaling, they are now reviewing his application to see if they missed any red flags. Seems some of his robberies took place prior to joining the force.

The NYPD said this is the highest form of betrayal.

Arbaje-Diaz was even stupid enough to post on his Facebook bragging about his love of money and his love of his job with NYPD.

Arbaje-Diaz is married and has two children. He also elected to post his favorite movies on Facebook also, guess what they are… Scarface, Corrupt Cops and American Gangster. His Favorite TV show was Law & Order.

Seems there is also a retired NYPD officer involved in the robberies as well and he is still under investigation.

In some of the crimes, it has been reported that they would hold some of the victims heads underwater to make them talk so they could get the information they wanted about drugs and here’s one right from the movies… Some of the victims reported they would take pliers and squeeze their testicles.

They believe the robbery crew netted more than $200,000 worth of drugs and thousands in cash from the robberies Arbaje-Diaz took part in.

It was also reported the thieves would wear flak jackets and would flash badges and occasionally would pull people over in a police style traffic stop. The thieves had cars equipped with lights and sirens.

Overall they would carefully pick their victims and its was reported they stole some 750 kilos of cocaine - worth $20 million - and $4 million in cash.

Investigators recovered over 70 kilos of coke and 20 guns.

Most of the attacks occurred in Queens, the Bronx and upper Manhattan. Cops said the ring also targeted dealers in Florida, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

Wonder if (X) Police Chief Morris West used craigslist to hire his prostitute

How funny would it be if he did? With all the sting operations going on using craigslist, it would add to the stupid criminals post if he was dumb enough to use craigslist.

Now rest assured I have no clue if Craigslist was used or not, I just think it would be funny if he did use that service.

Now for those not sure what I’m talking about the Haines City Police Chief has been indicted on 3 charges of soliciting prostitution.

The grand jury has been investigating the Haines City Police Department and so far has handed down these three indictments against Police Chief Morris West.

The (X) Chief did avoid being arrested on these charges since they were all misdemeanors.

Wonder if the same release on a summons took place with any of the 13 arrested in the recent Polk County sting?

The Grand Jury said the (X) Chief solicited prostitution 3 times in November and December.

Seems there has been a lot of stuff going on within the department. A couple officers that left Haines City PD was in the media speaking out against the Chief and his policies and said a lot of things did not seem to be on the up and up within the department.

Now it’s bad enough that a police officer is arrested or charged with a crime I think it’s even worse for the Chief.

I know I post a lot about officers arrested and these crimes honestly make me sick. These men and women took an oath to maintain high moral standards and maintain and enforce the law at all times. For them to show such disregard to the very oath they swore to uphold makes me sick.

Even with all the years I have been off the force, I still live my life maintaining the standards in that very oath I swore to uphold. Some friends that know me remind me from time to time that I’m not a cop any more and I need to let some things go.

Anyway, sorry for that side note, but with some of the recent comments about cops being arrested I wanted to throw that in here to help explain why it makes me sick to see any officer arrested or charged with a crime.

Now here is something else I don’t understand.

(X) Chief Morris West has been suspended with pay. WITH PAY, WITH PAY, WITH PAY.

WHY, WHY, WHY?

Why in the world does any department allow someone to be suspended with pay when they commit a crime?

At what point do we the taxpayers say enough is enough and if a police officer is charged, arrested, summoned, indicted that they are suspended without pay or at least fired on the spot.

It just makes no sense to give a charged officer the benefit of a paid vacation until the matter is resolved.

Even working as a paramedic, I honestly would expect to be terminated on the spot if I were to be arrested for any crime. I just don’t understand the departments in Florida allowing a potential criminal to get money for committing a crime.

Deputy Sheriff Arrested for selling OxyContin

Deputy Sheriff Arrested for selling OxyContin

Polk County Deputy Shawn T. Lucas, 30, was arrested after he sold Oxycontin tablets to undercover detectives.

Lucas sold the pill because of financial troubles. Lucas told detectives he and his family were having financial difficulties, and that his deceased father had been prescribed the OxyContin. So Lucas elected to sell the OxyContin.

Detectives had received information that Lucas was selling pills and they arranged to meet him in the parking lot of Save-A-Lot on 42nd St. in Auburndale.

Lucas was off duty at the time of the sell. He sold 4.4 grams of Oxycontin or that breaks down to 6 whole pills and nine half pills. The pills only has a street value of $220

Even worse Lucas had a fully loaded .45 caliber handgun in his car at the time of the sale.

Lucas was booked into the Polk County Jail without incident. Lucas resigned from the Sheriff’s Office upon his arrest. He was hired in March of 2006 and had no other disciplinary actions during his employment.

Lucas also worked for the Florida Department of Corrections, prior to being hired by the sheriff's office.

Lucas has been charged with Armed Trafficking in Illegal Drugs

His bond was set at $25,000.00.

I would like to ask Lucas if illegal drug sales was worth it.
He lost his career, just added to the financial problems he and his family was having and now faces time in prison.

I'm not sure whats worse, a deputy selling drugs or the fact that a deputy had to sell drugs to make more money to pay his bills.

Of course Im not sure of the situation as to why he was having so many financial problems, so it could be he just got in over his head with his bills or the sheriffs office pay is not enough to support a family. I guess we will find out more as more comes to light about this case.

Either way its sad that someone that took an oath to uphold the law now sits in jail for violating the very laws he swore to uphold. Was it really worth it?

Tanner was involved in a domestic dispute and allegedly used his taser on his wife.

A lot of details were not released about the dispute but they did release that he placed his service weapon to his wife head for 10 seconds.

Fort Lauderdale officer fired and arrested

Fort Lauderdale officer fired and arrested.

A police officer has been fired and arrested nearly two years after authorities say he took money belonging to a narcotics suspect and then falsified a police report to make it seem he just found the cash according to reports released on Monday.

Robert Merkel, 45, was a 14 year veteran of the police department. He was terminated on January 15th and then arrested on May 29th on one felony count of official misconduct and one count of falsifying records, which is a misdemeanor.

The investigation started in August 2006 when two rookie officers complained about Merkel’s behavior during an arrest. Authorities could not (or would not) explain the lag time between the incident and his firing and arrest.

Here's what a report by the police department's Office of Internal Affairs said led to Merkel's arrest:

Christopher Clemons and Grant Moule, two officer’s fresh out of the police academy, responded to a narcotics complaint the morning of Aug. 26.

A suspect at that address, identified in the records as Reginald Wilson, fled on foot but Clemons stopped him a few blocks away on Northeast Fifth Terrace. He handcuffed Wilson and placed him on the ground along with the suspect phones and several bills equaling $315 found in the suspect's pants.

Clemons and Moule then retraced the path of the chase. The money was gone when they returned to Wilson's side.

When Clemons asked about the money, other officers on the scene told him Merkel had taken it. The report did not make it clear when Merkel showed up.

The veteran officer told the two rookies he was "gonna take the money and place it into evidence for safekeeping," according to a statement by Moule.

Clemons then told him the money belonged to Wilson, but Merkel told them the suspect could get it back some other time, the report said.

"This is how we do things," Merkel is accused of telling the pair.

Wilson said in a written statement that he overheard Merkel tell the officers they could split the cash.

Merkel later wrote a police report saying he found the money "laying on the grass" on Fifth Avenue. The money was actually lying next to Wilson on Fifth Terrace, the internal affairs report said.

Merkel did not include Wilson's name or personal information in the police report, which would have made it impossible for Wilson to retrieve the cash, said Capt. Rick Maglione of Internal Affairs in a memo to then-Chief Bruce Roberts.

Clemons and Moule told their supervisors the next day about Merkel taking the money.

When asked about his actions, Merkel told investigators he took the money because he was sure the cash did not belong to Wilson, speculating that the suspect may have stolen it from a possibly Haitian victim, according to the Internal Affairs report.

Merkel was placed on paid administrative leave during the investigation, a police spokeswoman said.

Assistant Chief Robert Carter recommended in November 2007 that Merkel be fired. The investigation by Internal Affairs ended last December.

The State Attorney's Office is also investigating the case.

Authorities say Merkel can appeal his termination and have an independent arbitrator review his case. Meanwhile, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement will decide whether to bar him from joining other agencies in the state.

Former Police Sergeant convicted

Former Police Sergeant convicted

Jeff Pelo, 43, a former Bloomington Police Sergeant was convicted on Wednesday of raping 4 women and stalking a fifth.

Pelo was found guilty on all 35 counts, including 25 of aggravated sexual assault. Two charges were dropped during the trial.

Pelo has been jailed since June 2006. He was unable to post his 1 million dollar bond.

Prosecutor Messman said despite the lack of DNA evidence or forensic evidence the jury reached its decision. There was no smoking gun, but there were several strong pieces of evidence. Part of that evidence, three of the four women picked him out of a photo lineup.

Defense attorney Michael Rosenblat said he likely would appeal. He plans to argue that the judge shouldn't have let jurors see pornography found on Pelo's home computer, and should have let the defense call an expert witness to testify about the reliability of eyewitness identifications.

"I believed before opening statements and I believe today that Jeff is not guilty," Rosenblat said.

Messman portrayed Pelo as a man driven on the one hand by violent fantasies, and on the other by a desire to be his victims' boyfriend. At least one of the women described her attacker as gentle and polite.

Investigators found numerous images of violent pornography some depicting forced sex at gunpoint on Pelo's home computer.

The defense attorney said whatever taste Pelo might have for pornography was irrelevant.

The defense attorney seized on discrepancies offered by the victims, particularly one woman's description of an attacker as young as his early 20s.

"The descriptions of these attacks vary widely," the attorney told jurors. "They differ because different people committed these attacks."

His wife about half way through the judge reading the verdict, started screaming and creating a scene.

Court security came in and escorted Rickielee out of the courtroom. Afterwards she did apologize for the outburst, but she claims she knows her husband is innocent and plans to fight the convictions.

Robert Hendrix, More to the story

Robert Hendrix, more to the story.

After Hendrix was arrested he was placed on administrative leave without pay. Apparently the department gave him the option to resign, which he did on May 15.

Hendrix has been working with the street crimes unit which deals with street level drug and gang related violence and crime.

According to the State Attorney’s Office Hendrix has taken part in an arrest involving “B Street-ers”

During recent interviews Hendrix and his wife, Beverly, denied any involvement in the fires.

Hendrix still claims he came home to find graffiti spray painted on the walls of his garage. Some of the graffiti said, “You’ve burned us, now we’re going to burn you.”

Investigators were quick to pick up on what appeared to be“rehearsed” explanations from Hendrix’s wife Beverly. Her demeanor, posturing and behavior were indicative of deception.

Interesting enough, Robert Hendrix claims he is not responsible for the fire at his home and yet he still refused to take a Computer Voice Stress Analyzer. Apparently his ex-supervisors encouraged him to take the exam but he still refuses.

Hendrix did take some pictures and video of the graffiti with his cell phone. Sadly it seems that the investigators will use some of the pictures/video to disprove what Hendrix has claimed.

Hendrix was home alone that night, stating he did not feel safe with his family there because of the graffiti incident. So he was home alone and claims he was woke up by the smell of smoke and the sound of his smoke detectors.

Now what I find really odd about this case, who do you call if you house is on fire?
This should be a simple answer, the fire department of course.

Who did Hendrix call after waking up to the smell of smoke and that loud beeping smoke detector?

He called his sergeant.
Wonder how that phone call went?

Hendrix – hey sarg, just wanted to let you know my house is on fire and I might be late tomorrow.

Sgt – Have you called the fire department?

Hendrix – No, I needed to notify you that I might be late tomorrow. I think the “B Street-ers” set my house on fire.

Sgt – Hang up and call 911, get the fire department there.

Hendrix – Ok sarg, as long as you know I might be late tomorrow also sarg if the fire department does not get here in time, can I borrow a uniform and a gun belt?

Sgt- Hang up and call the fire department. That’s an order.

Click, Hendrix hangs up. Well there is not enough damage to my house yet, who else can I call. I know let me call the police dispatch center

Lake Wales PD what is your emergency?

Hendrix – this is Officer Hendrix, I just wanted to call and let you know my house was on fire

Lake Wales PD – Have you called the fire department yet?

Hendrix – No. I wanted to make sure you knew I think the “B Street-ers” gang set my house on fire.

Lake Wales PD – do you want us to call the fire department or are you going to call?

Hendrix – Well, I guess since I called you instead of the fire department I should let you make that notification. Yeah, gone on and call them and get them out here quick, my house is on fire.

Lake Wales PD – Ok Rob, we have the fire department on the way is your wife and children out of the house?

Hendrix – Yeah I was home alone. I did not want them to encounter the “B Street=ers” when they started the fire. You know I had the graffiti spray painted in my house yesterday and they said they were going to burn me. So I figured they would burn me tonight and had them leave home for their own safety of course.

Lake Wales PD – good at least no one was hurt.

Hendrix – Yeah that is good and just so you know, I have already called the sarg and let him know I might be late tomorrow. By the way does anyone have an extra uniform and gun belt I can use tomorrow cause if the fire department does not get here quick I will not have a uniform to wear tomorrow.

Ok just so you know I made up the phone conversations. This is not an official transcript of any phone conversation.

But this part is very true; Robert and Beverly Hendrix collected $183,000 in insurance money: $122,000 for the house and $61,000 for their personal content.

"It is the observation of State Fire Marshal detectives that Robert Hendrix 'set up' the initial incident, in preparations to set fire to his residence," the report stated. "Hendrix did not make immediate attempts to call 911 and has not offered any viable explanations for his inconsistencies documented at the crime scene."

SC Trooper Indicated on Tuesday

Tue Jun 10, 7:38 PM ET
COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina Highway Patrol trooper who was caught on video ramming a suspect with his patrol car was indicted Tuesday on a federal civil rights charge, the U.S. Justice Department said.

Steve C. Garren was indicted by a federal grand jury in Greenville on a charge of willfully depriving a man of his constitutional right to be free from the use of unreasonable force by a police officer, authorities said. Garren is white; the suspect he rammed is black.

State and federal authorities began investigating the highway patrol in March after videos emerged that showed troopers using a racial epithet and ramming their cruisers into fleeing suspects. The head of the patrol, as well as the head of the agency that oversees it, both resigned in February amid charges of racism among troopers. The investigations continue.

Garren was placed on suspension without pay immediately, said Mark Keel, who was confirmed last week as director of the Department of Public Safety. Garren had also been suspended for two days after the 2007 incident.

Black lawmakers and Gov. Mark Sanford criticized the patrol after a four-year-old video emerged showing an officer using a derogatory term for blacks while pursuing a suspect on foot. Several weeks later, the patrol released more videos showing troopers using their cars to ram fleeing suspects.

"You better run," the officer yells in the first video released, using a slur, "because I'm fixin' to kill you."

If convicted, Garren faces up to 10 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.
