2 teenagers’ lost their life,1 was murdered and 1 sent to prison for 2 life terms.

Demarlis Melvin was 18 at the time of the crime. Melvin shot and killed Mike Smith III, also 18 years old.

Melvin was convicted in court for murder and was sentenced on Monday to 2 life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.

The murder took place in May 2006

The courtroom drama was abundant. The mother of Smith wanted Melvin to get the death penalty for the murder of her son. The mother said she wanted the mother of Melvin to feel the same pain she has felt over losing a child.

Smith’s mother, Breeshell Devine, said she was sure Demarlis got to tell his mom happy mothers day while all she could do was sit at the grave site and wish and hope to hear her sons’ voice again.

Smith was outside a St. Petersburg, FL apartment when Melvin pulled up in a car and Melvin started some type of confrontation because he was from a rival neighborhood.

Sound like a good reason to shot and kill someone right? I’m from another neighborhood, I should kill you. What the…

Why do people commit such senseless crimes? Surely there had to be something more than I am from a different neighborhood. Is that really a reason to shoot into a crowd of teenagers? I just don’t understand this at all. But that’s just me…

Melvin left the scene at first and later he returned and that’s when Melvin started shooting into the crowd striking Smith.

It was reported that Melvin and Smith did not know each other.

Yet we have another senseless crime that took the life of yet another teenager.

As you know I agree if any person takes a life, they should die as well. But for whatever reason the courts decided to give him 2 life sentences without the possibility of parole.

With the conflict between the Melvin’s and Smith’s after the sentence was handed down, the police had to escort the Smith family out of the courtroom to ensure there was no violence between the families.

Maybe in his 2 life terms Melvin will have ample time to figure out what he done wrong.

But of course with the drug trade and criminal enterprise in prison he might be too busy to even think about the errors of his ways.

Teen to be charged as an adult in a murder case.

In Manatee County, Byron Galloway, 16, was arrested and accused of killing Dejuan Williams.

Galloway has been charged with second-degree murder and aggravated assault.

Dejaun Williams was 18 at the time of his death. Williams was a high school track star and was shot and killed in order to protect his sister.

Now not only has Galloway took a life, he has possible lost the rest of his life over senseless violence.

Not that I disagree with him being in prison for the rest of his life but its sad to see yet another teenager with no life ahead of him now. Of course maybe life would be better for him on the inside of a prison v/s the streets. Who knows…? I don’t, but for the life of me I can never understand why anyone would want to take part in a crime that could cost them the rest of their life.

Not only did his action cost him the rest of his life but he also took the life of another teenager that according to family and friends had a very promising future.

In case you did not see the case in the news here’s a rundown of what has been reported so far.

Williams was shot and killed in his own backyard on York Drive West. His girlfriend was there at the time of his death.

Williams had returned home around 2200 hrs and learned there had been some guys there at his house and his 13 year old sister was home. Williams was concerned since his parents were at work.

Williams then checked the house and found a back window broken and saw someone in the back yard hiding behind a shed.

Williams confronted the suspect with a baseball bat and the suspect shot him.

Police and friends tried to revive Williams. But the gunshot wounds proved to be fatal.

Family and friends are having a tough time dealing with this loss. Williams recently graduated from Bayshore High School was ready to attend West Virginia State on a track scholarship.

In Manatee County the death of Williams marked the 24th homicide of the year and the second death in a two day period.

More stupid criminal acts = more prison time for Jaqueal Harris

01/24/2009

Well I have to remember that he is innocent until proven guilty by a jury of his peers.

But this St. Pete teenager has set the course of the rest of his natural life to take place in prison.

I’m not sure if you remember the recent post about Jaqueal Harris, he was recently arrested for several armed robberies and his parents were his get-a-way car driver during his last robbery where he and a friend robbed a local convenience store.

With Harris already in jail, investigators did not have to look long for him when they received information about Harris being involved in a murder.

A witness came forward and identified Harris as the man that shot and killed Clarence Mitchell, Jr. last October. Mitchell, 37, was gunned down at the front door of his house on 13th Ave. S.

The witness also identified Harris as the person who had been involved in a fight with Mitchell earlier that week.

Seems that Harris has already passed his 3 strikes and you’re out rule and now will be facing the rest of his life in prison.

How sad. We have lost yet another teenager to crime and violence. When will people actually start taking corrective action and stop waiting for something to happen before they get involved?

This case makes me believe that some people should not be parents. If people cannot teach their own children the basic morals and characters of doing the right thing, then we are doomed as society.

People want the rights to say and do anything they want, but somewhere along the way we have to teach right from wrong and ensure the right things are being done as we live our own life. Granted we cannot change everyone in the world, but I cannot believe this teen did not have problems well before the murder and no one done nothing to help him succeed in life. Now the rest of his life will be spent in prison.

People claim they are scared to get involved and they have a right to be scared. But at some point we the people have to also ensure the right things are being done to ensure our own safety. People have to start getting involved.

At the same token, we have certain groups that we have witnessed in St. Pete that came to town on one case and tried to instill fear and distrust in the police to the people of St. Petersburg. Yet we wonder why we have such problems that we have today.

That case is a prime example of certain people wanting to keep the racial problems alive in the world today. A good friend of mine that I used to work with use to be very active in supporting the rights of blacks in the community became so disgusted with this protest that she said she had never been so angry that they pulled the discrimination card right off the bat.

This all goes back to personal responsibility as well. Instead of coming to town and saying what can we do to help get to the truth of this case, they came in and tried to create fear and make people believe the police could not be trusted. Yet we still have people wondering why there are problems in the world today.

At some point and time we do have to stand united and work out our problems. But as we sit back and just wait, we will continue to see more teenagers lose their life to crime and violence.

Halo 3, a deadly game in Ohio, just ask Daniel Petric…

Defense attorneys hard at work in this case already and for what?

Well, I guess I’m jumping the gun so to speak, but out in Ohio a teenager, Daniel Petric, 17, murdered his mom and wounding his father after they took Halo 3 away from him.

Defense attorneys were arguing that the teenager’s obsession of the violent game may have warped his sense of reality.

The Judge in the case rejected the defenses argument that Petric was not guilty for reason of insanity. The Judge said the defense didn’t contest that Petric shot his parents after they took the game away from him, but insisted that the teen’s youth and addiction made him less responsible.

Less responsible? That is the best the defense could come up with, less responsible?
This teenager shot his mom and dad. Sadly mom died as a result of her injuries and dad managed to live.

The judge in this case even said that he firmly believes that Daniel Petric has no idea at the time he hatched this plot that if he killed his parents they would be dead forever.

Petric may have been addicted, but the evidence also showed he planned the crime for weeks, said Burge, who found the teenager guilty of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder and other charges.

Tried as an adult, Petric faces a maximum possible penalty of life in prison without parole. The judge didn't set a sentencing date.

The teen's mother, Susan Petric, 43, died of a gunshot wound to the head. Her husband, Mark Petric, a minister at New Life Assembly of God in Wellington, also was shot in the head but survived.

On the night of the shooting, Petric used his father's key to open a lockbox and remove a 9 mm handgun and the game.

Mark Petric testified that his son came into the room and asked: "Would you guys close your eyes? I have a surprise for you." He testified that he expected a pleasant surprise. Then his head went numb from the gunshot.

Deputy prosecuting attorney Anthony Cillo argued during the trial that the teenager had planned to make it appear to be a murder-suicide by putting the gun in his father's hand.

Defense Attorney James Kersey said that when the teenager fled the grisly scene, he only took one item with him: the "Halo 3" game.

October 2, 2008 and while we are talking about teenagers that murder

Nyanda Charley has been convicted and sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Charley was arrested for killing a New York Security Guard on Halloween.

The guard, Neville Webb, 52, was trying to break up the teens from throwing eggs. Charley came up behind Webb and shot him.

Charley had admitted to the shooting in 2007.

Anyway, at least he was convicted.

Christmas = 4 Murders. Teenager Jaquan Clark has been charged for murder x 4

Jaquan Clark, 17, of Rochester managed to ruin the rest of his life. Two crime scenes 3 days apart and now another teen has lost his life to crime.

Over the holidays Clark went on a killing spree. Clark was arraigned in Rochester City Court on Thursday morning for multiple charges. Of those charges there were 4 counts of second-degree murder.

The crime spree started on Christmas Eve, when Clark supposedly murdered Alfred Ocasio, 37..

Then if one murder wasn’t enough, Clark went back out on Dec. 27th and is accused of a triple homicide. During the triple homicide the following were found murdered;

Donald MacMaster, 62
Jeffrey Szymkowski, 33
Arielle Griffin, 17

I think Ocasio was found dead in his front yard and MacMaster, Szymkowski and Griffin were found inside the home of MacMaster and Szymkowski.

Clark has been charged with

4 counts of second degree murder
Criminal Possession of a weapon
Criminal Possession of Stolen Property
False Impersonation
Harassment -- outstanding warrants from Greece and Rochester

Clark is being held in jail with no bond. Clark was captured during a traffic stop of a mini van. Clark was a passenger and a loaded .357 caliber gun was found in the van. The gun was linked to Clark through a finger print.

However, even though the gun has been linked to Clark, police are not releasing any information in regards to the murder weapon. They have not indicated if this was the murder weapon used in his killing spree.

As a matter of fact, watching this story on the news, the police refuse to release any information as these cases progress through the system.

The only sensible thing Clark has done throughout his killing spree was admit to his involvement in both the 12/24 and 12/27 murders.

This case relates directly to the other recent post I have made about teenagers with guns. I think this case would be interesting to learn more about Clark, his life and his motives to kill so many people in a matter of 3 days.

The media was reporting that families were mad about the uncontrollable crimes in there area’s and rightfully so. Crime, hate crimes, drug crimes and murders seem to be an every day occurrence now and we have to ask where the police and court systems are when we need them?

This teenager is accused or murdering a man over a bicycle according to a family member of one of the deceased. I cannot believe for one minute that someone involved in his prior cases did not know that there would be trouble down the road for this teenager.

People in this case is mad at the police and mad that the crime rates are so high in there area. Why not be mad at the right people? First we have to examine his home life and find out where his parents or guardian where during his up bringing. Surely with such a violent killing spree for a teenager there had to be some indicators that something was wrong with this kid well before this crime spree every took place.

The police as much as they are failing at the main goal, to serve and protect, they do have a tough job and a lot of times the police can only do what we the people want done. People are scared to get involved and sadly people have every right to be scared. Police, like for example where I live, seem to have taken the approach of there is nothing they can do until something happens.

Well with the years of Law Enforcement I have, I say that is the biggest load of the most politically correct crap I have heard. There is always something else that can be done. Don’t get me wrong, tough enforcement and tough courts seem to act as a deterrent to a lot of people, but we also need to have police and other people involved in these cases in other manors as well.

Personally speaking when I worked as a cop, I went above and beyond my call of duties and helped several people with some major problems. For example, 1 person I knew was nothing more than a druggie and alcoholic at the age of 15. This kid lived in another State (I worked on the good side of the State line...lol… Those that know me will get the joke...)

But anyway, even though his crimes took place in another State, I had the opportunity to help this kid out. He was a school drop out and by the time he was 17 he could not even keep a job longer than a week because he would steal from the company he worked for to support his habits.

I started to work with this kid and the first time in 2 years he started to stay sober. Once he started to stay sober, I talked him into enrolling into a GED program, which he completed. He stopped stealing and was able to get a job and he has maintained that job for the last 10 years. He is now married with a kid and owns a home.

But there is no doubt if he would have continued on the same path he was on, he would probably been dead years ago. His problems were that bad.

Now you are probably asking how I done it. All it took for him was a positive role model and someone to be there for him if he needed help. That’s all it took. Now I say like it was an easy task. It wasn’t easy in any stretch of the imagination. First to get a druggie to trust a cop is a major accomplishment within itself.

It also required me to go outside the box so to speak. With academy training you are taught how to be a police officer, but one thing they never taught me is how to help another human being when they need help. As a cop you are taught laws, and law enforcement and how to drive fast and how to break up a fight how to deal with almost any criminal activities you can imagine, but they never taught me to go outside the box and do anything to help my neighbor.

Today with our police you cannot even get most of them to even speak to you and where I live, even if I call them it takes hours to even see an officer, if they even respond to the call. It makes me almost sick to hear some police officers say they went into law enforcement to make a difference and yet they do absolutely nothing to make that difference.

Crime is out of control and police certainly cannot deal with it. I think some times that’s why the crime rates are so high. People have elected to turn to street justice instead of the police or the courts. Teenagers elect to carry a gun to solve a problem instead of seeking other alternatives to solve their problems. People are scared and have every right to be scared.

So what are we to do? I wish I knew the answer to that. All we can do is keep praying for the best possible outcome as the police sit around and wait for a crime to take place before they take any positive corrective action. I don’t know if a positive influence in Clark’s life would have made a difference in his killing spree and sadly now we will never know since he is accused of spending Christmas murdering 4 people.

May God have Mercy on his Soul.

And while we are talking about teenagers that murder

And while we are talking about teenagers that murder

Nyanda Charley, 19, pleaded guilty to killing a security guard last Halloween.

The guard was attempting to break up a group of teens taking place in a Halloween favorite. Egging.

The teens were egging cars at the apartment complex where 53-year-old Neville Webb was working.

As he attempted to break up the group, Nyanda Charley snuck up behind Webb and shot him. Webb was armed but it was reported he never un-holstered his weapon.
Charley faces 20 years to life in prison. Right now he is to be sentenced in December.

Mount Vernon Police Commissioner David Chong, who came to know Webb's family well, said the case illustrates the police's success at solving violent crimes.

"We had a very good case against him," Chong said of Charley, adding that police were able to obtain a videotape of the incident and cooperation from the community that led to Charley's incarceration.

"The community really banded together because this was an innocent man who was doing his job who was quite honestly assassinated," Chong said

Webb, a father of five who emigrated from Jamaica, was working as a security guard at the Oakwood Gardens Apartments on East Lincoln Avenue when he saw the teens engaging in the Halloween prank.

As he approached the group, Charley came up from behind and shot Webb once in the head and once in the chest. Webb, who was armed but never drew his weapon, was taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he died.

Charley was arrested four days after the shooting. He apparently had prior run-ins with Webb, who was known as a diligent security guard with work experience as a correction officer in his native Jamaica. His death sparked a weeklong outpouring of outrage and sorrow in the city.

"We in the community (are) relieved to put this ugly episode behind us," Chong said

Give me money for beer or I will kill you…

Give me money for beer or I will kill you…

Wait; let me kill you and steal your 6 dollars and then I can buy beer with the money I stole from you.

At least what Alan Michael Tanguay, 16,was thinking. Palm Bay Police have arrested Tanguay for first degree murder.

Apparently he is accused of fatally cutting 58 year old Patricia Kaliszeski throat.

He used a knife from her home and stole approximately 6 bucks in cash from her and he wanted to buy beer with that money.

Kaliszeski was found dead, face down in a pool of her blood in her home on Friday and Police were able to arrest Tanguay on Monday.

According to media reports Kaliszeski was found in her bedroom with her throat cut and multiple stab wounds in her neck.

Police reported they had information from at least two witnesses and they both pointed their fingers right to Tanguay. Apparently Tanguay was stupid enough to ask someone to buy beer for him with the money he stole. Not to mention he was also stupid enough to tell witnesses statements only the killer would know.

In addition to the witnesses, Tanguay confessed to the crime during his interview with police.
What’s wrong with this picture? A 16 year old killing someone for 6 bucks for beer?

First we would have to wonder where in the heck were the parents. And what kind of life did this kid have if he was so desperate to drink beer that he decided to viciously kill someone over it.

There has not been a lot of other information released about this case that I can find at this time. There was no arrest information that I could find on line at the time of writing this post. So I will keep up with this case and see what else we can turn up.

It would be interesting to find out what was going through a 16 year old brain and why he thought it would be appropriate to murder someone for 6 bucks for beer.

Mother and son; Murdered.

Mother and son; Murdered.

In Minneapolis two teenagers are accused of two brutal murders.

Katricia Daniels, 36, was found dead with stab wounds and more than 100 cuts.
Robert Shepard, 10, her son, was found with a television smashed over his head.

The accused
Stafon Edward Thompson 17
Brian Lee Flowers, 16

Both from Minneapolis were charged with first-degree murder.

According to criminal complaints Thompson and Flowers were blaming each other. The investigators state they don’t know why this murder was committed and they may never know.

The accused claimed they knew Daniels through her 15 year old son. He lives in Chicago. The accused also claimed the motive for the murder was robbery; however, the only thing taken was the cell phone belonging to Daniels. Police were able to find then teens by calls made on the very cell phone they stole. The County Attorney denies the motive as robbery noting the extreme violence. The attorney said the level of violence associated with this crime is difficult to comprehend and difficult to imagine.

Joseph Williams, Daniels boyfriend, found the bodies on Thursday morning. Williams 1 year old daughter was at the house and she was found bloody but unharmed.

Daniels body was found in the bathroom and Shepard was in a bedroom.

According to reports, blood was splattered throughout the house. Police also found bloody foot prints, hand prints and finger prints. Police were able to recover two knives and a golf club in the house that they believed were used in the killings.

Police also recovered a knife from a garbage can in the alley.

Reports also stated that it appeared that Daniels had welcomed the teens into her home when they first arrived on June 11.

If convicted, the teens face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
